Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Talib Kweli at the Cannery Ballroom

Nashville, Tenn --Talib Kweli’s name is synonymous with quality lyrical content. Thoughtful, provocative and meaningful, his metaphorical skills are superior in comparison to his peers. This is evident in the title of his fifth solo studio album, “Gutter Rainbows.” It is the tour of the same name that sponsors Lovenoise and The Smoking Section, will bring to the stage at the Cannery Ballroom on Thursday, May 5 at 8 PM.

A Brooklyn, New York native, Kweli made his way to the rap scene with Mos Def when the duo formed the group Black Star. A few years later in 2000, he partnered with Hi-Tek, delivering “Train of Thought,” before he went solo. Known as a ‘conscious,’ rapper, Kweli has multiple songs and albums that have landed on the Billboard charts. His most recent album was released on his own label imprint, Talibra.

Kweli will be performing with a live band and his set is expected to span the course of his discography while melodically mesmerizing the crowd with hit after hit. Kweli’s catalog includes “Get By,” “K.O.S.,” “2000 Seasons,” “Chaos,” and “The Blast,” to name a few. His collaboration with artists like Kanye West birthed “Get ‘em High,” where Kweli’s spitting in his trademark clean rhythmic flow over the beat.

In 2007, Kweli signed opening act, Jean Grae, to his Blacksmith record label. Funny and prolific, Grae has been doing damage in the underground rap circuit. Her honest commentary has lyrical depth and her set promises to exceed the highest expectations. As a female rapper, she is holding her own, while setting a higher standard for women in her genre with every set of 16 bars.

With sounds spinning by DJ Wick-It on the turntables, The Gutter Rainbows Tour, with Talib Kweli and Jean Grae will ensure that Nashville’s connoisseurs of hip hop don’t have to look any further than the Cannery Ballroom for their pot of gold!
