Nashville, TN (February 28, 2013)—The TN Latin American Chamber of Commerce welcomes six new board members, which will include the introduction of three Junior Board members, who are a part of the young professional board training program. Joining the board are Marielena Ramos, Kia Jarmon, and Edmundo Cepeda along with Jose Rodriguez, Karla Vazquez and Dalila Duarte joining as the inaugural Junior Board Members.
“We are pleased at the commitment these business professionals and students have for the Tennessee Latin American Chamber of Commerce and the Latin American business community,” shares Board President, Nelson Remus. “Through their contributions it is our hope to continue to be recognized as the leading Latin voice for the business community in TN.”
TLACC board members serve a two -year term and are charged with serving as liaisons between the Latin American business community and Corporate America, while also engaging non-Latin American organizations who desire to participate in the Latin American community.
Marielena Ramos is a Producer and Director of News Channel 5 Plus an extension of the News Channel 5 Network and has been in that position for the past four years. She is specifically responsible for niche programming to diverse segments of the Nashville community. Prior to this position she was an Account Executive for NewsChannel 5 in Nashville. She serves on the Chamber’s Communications Committee.
PR and Brand Strategist Kia Jarmon will serve as Communications Chair. She is the Creative Director of The MEPR Agency and is best known for her ability to connect traditional public relations with digital and social platforms to align clients with their community, media, and social mediums. Kia brings a wide variety of communications tools that will be used in her position with the board.
Edmundo Cepeda is the Senior Manager of Strategic Analytics at Asurion. His strong background in finance and economic development will aid Edmundo in providing sound fiscal practices as the TLACC treasurer.
Recent Lipscomb University graduate Jose Rodriguez joins as a Junior Board member, will work closely as a liaison for the FUTURO program, and just recently was announced as the new Administrative Assistant for the Chamber. With a degree emphasis on International Business Jose will work closely with multicultural efforts between the Chamber, Latin American business owners, and the community. Jose has most recently worked as the program assistant for Lipscomb’s Department of Multicultural Affairs and the community outreach assistant for The Department of Law Justice and Society.
Karla Vazquez is currently the Finance & Human Resource Coordinator for the TN Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition (T.I.R.R.C.). She recently graduated from Lipscomb University where she was heavily involved in the FUTURO program and YMCA Latino Achievers. She has just transitioned from her position as the Administrative Assistant for the Chamber and will continue her strong work as a Junior Board member.
Junior Board Member Dalila Duarte is currently studying at Tennessee State University and leads the TSU FUTURO chapter. She currently works as a Graduate Assistant in the Office of Diversity & International Affairs, following a successful time working in the Office of the President. Dalila has a strong passion for youth, through her work as a former elementary school teacher, and will work closely with many of the youth specific programs.
The first TLACC Networking luncheon of the year will be held March 6th with special guest speaker Governor Bill Haslam with additional presentations from El Protector, the police department’s Hispanic community outreach program, and NashvilleNext, the process to direct the future of Nashville over the next 25 years. The program is from 11-1pm at Lipscomb University’s Ezell Building and tickets are $35.
